HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY -- A controversy in Hazleton has the mayor and a state representative butting heads.

A private company wants to use construction and demolition material to fill abandoned stripping pits in the cities south side. The company had been using river dredge before this plan.

State Representative Todd Eachus sent out post cards and letters to people in Hazleton - urging them to have their voices heard on the issue. Mayor Lou Barletta calls the move pure politics.

Eachus added he wanted the DEP to look into the safety of this project. The end result of the project would be a new amphitheater and shopping mall.
