ELMHURST, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Icy roads led to several crashes Tuesday morning, including one that brought out a HazMat crew in Lackawanna County.

A tandem tractor trailer hit black ice around 1:00 A. M. on Interstate 84 in Elmhurst Township. That's about two miles from the Mount Cobb exit.

Both trailer units flipped on their side and both were carrying a potentially dangerous cargo. Duane Hoover of the Elmhurst/Roaring Brook Fire Department said, "He was hauling 26 barrels of hazardous materials that ranged anywhere from sulfuric acid to ammonia, ah sulfates and ah, alcohol."

Some fumes were detected in the trailers but there were no leaks. The barrels were off-loaded and transferred to another truck for shipment.
