Easter Baskets Handed Out in Scranton
Easter Baskets Handed Out in Scranton - Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 12:09PM EST
SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Easter may not be until Sunday, but many people in Lackawanna County are already receiving their Easter baskets.
People were lined up outside the Holy Family Church in Scranton Tuesday morning, for the 33rd Annual Easter Food Basket Program. The Friends of the Poor sponsor the food drive and organize the event.
Volunteers include students from Dunmore High School, Lackawanna College and other volunteer groups. People who received the baskets say they're truly an Easter blessing. Yvonne Blair of Throop said, "It means a lot. It’s really helpful, you know, with everything and the economy these days. It's really hard for the families and everything. So with her help it’s a very good blessing. I'm very blessed that she can reach out to everybody and help everybody in a time of need."
Lori Cushing of Jermyn said, "It’s very hard for me in the holiday season and I think it's a great thing that they get to help us out with these, because without it my three babies probably wouldn't have Easter baskets this year."
Volunteers will continue handing out the food baskets Wednesday until 4:00. | |
