Easter Bunny Shops in the Poconos - Friday, April 2, 2010 at 04:03AM EST

MOUNTAINHOME, MONROE COUNTY - The secret is out. Eyewitness News discovered where the Easter Bunny gets his candy. It's at Callie's Candy Kitchen in Mountainhome.

Business owner Harry Callie smiled, "Easter is definitely the candy man's holiday." And Callie is the Candy Man himself. He's the Easter Bunny's right hand man.

He opened the store nearly 60 years ago. Back then he made just two types of candy. He sold crushed peanut candy and jordan crackers.

Now his store is bursting with about 3,000 varieties of sweet. There are the typical chocolate bunnies and jelly beans and some surprises like chocolate covered twinkies and chocolate dipped cayenne peppers.

Callie makes his candy at the store. A lot of it's unique. Of course you have the typical chocolate covered strawberries - but there are also chocolate dipped grapes -and chocolate dipped cream cheese.

Callie laughed "I do have a little crew of oompa oompas too cause I certainly don't make this all myself."

Customers love looking for the newest treats. Barbara Walck of East Stroudsburg said, "It's home made. It's fresh. It's here. And it's just a tradition that we love coming up here."

And it's an Easter tradition for many. Amy Long has been going since she was five. She said she couldn't imagine Easter without Callies. She explained,"It like wouldn't be the same without it. It like. This is like where I have to come every year."

So despite the economy it looks like homemade treats from the local candy man are making for a sweet Easter Business season here. Callie said Good Friday and the Saturday after are his two busiest days of the year. He starts making candy for the rush right after Valentine's Day.
