WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- Luzerne County's Bureau of Elections is getting ready for a large voter turnout Tuesday. About 188,000 voters are registered. The votes will be tallied at the courthouse.
That's where we caught up with County Director of Elections Leonard Piazza. "It looks great for tomorrow. I mean there's no reason for anybody not to come out and vote," he said.
Piazza expects about a 75% voter turnout. That's up from the 70% turnout in 2004. Statewide voter registration is at an all-time high. Piazza says numbers have been growing since the historic primaries. "Since then the interest has just grown and grown and grown to the point where we are on the verge of having one of probably what will be one of the most historic elections since Kennedy was elected," he said.
20 more voting machines will be placed at the most used precincts. Piazza says other than that, not many changes were made since the primaries. "I don't think there's any big issues. I think we've put many of these preparations into this election thus far, all of the machines all of our election officials are accounted for, everybodies trained up, everybody is prepared to go," he added.
