SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- A report released by a national environmental organization cites global warming as the cause for an increased frequency in severe rain storms in Pennsylvania.

The group offered, as an example, the storm that caused heavy flooding in counties of Northeastern Pennsylvania in June of 2006.

The report, compiled by the organization PennEnvironment, indicates that storms with heavy rainfall are now 41% more frequent in Pennsylvania than they were 60 years ago.

Speaking for PennEnvironment Moria Bieg said "The trend will continue and what was once seen as the storm of the decade will now be just another downpour."

The organization is calling for federal legislation to reduce global warming emissions by 80% by the year 2050.
