HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY -- A young boy, allegedly abused at the hands of his own mother, spoke out today. Investigators say it's one of the worst cases of child abuse they've ever seen.
The case centers on a boy who was 8 years-old at the time of the alleged abuse. He told Eyewitness News that he was afraid of his mom and all he wants is happiness.
The boy is now 9 years-old. He says he was always afraid in is own home, afraid of his mother, Barbara Reimiller of Hazleton. She is locked up facing trial on abuse charges.
The boy says he was beaten with a metal pipe, locked in a closet for hours without access to a bathroom and was forced to eat dog food.
"My real mom would beat me up really, really bad, he told Eyewitness News. When asked if he told her to stop he said, She wouldn't listen, yeah."
Jamie lives with the boy's father. They called police when they saw injuries all over the boy's body. The fathers girlfriend told Eyewitness News, "When his mother called and asked us to come get him we had noticed the marks. We took pictures, spoke with him about it, eventually he admitted what was going on."
The boy, who turned 9 this week, has scary memories of his home. "Her boyfriend was fighting with her, he got two dogs, then I got beat up!
The boy told Eyewitness News that things are much better now that he is out of that house.
Police say Reimiller abused her son for more than a year, then went into hiding when police began to investigate.
She has pleaded not guilty and will face trial later this summer.
