EXETER, LUZERNE COUNTY- It's been almost a week since an explosion rocked a Luzerne County neighborhood. Nearly 60 homes and an elementary school were damaged. Neighbors there are now hoping for federal aid to rebuild their homes.
David Lamoreaux's house in Exeter blew up and police say it was no accident. While Lamoreax's home is destroyed, neighboring homes are still standing, some with a lot of damage.

Windows blew out of Donald Wall's house. Wall says his insurance company will take care of the damage.

Luzerne County's Emergency Management Agency says 59 households applied for small business administration loans. The money is for people who need help in addition to their own insurance for repairs.

Wall says it's a headache the neighborhood didn't need. "A lot of people are upset if it was intentional, I think it would have been a bit more understanding if it was a natural disaster," said Wall.

Eyewitness News got an inside look at the damage inside JFK Elementary. Some of the ceiling is still hanging in the cafeteria and classrooms. Windows are boarded up and every clock stopped at 2:06, the time Lamoreax's house exploded.

Wyoming Area superintendent Ray Bernardi says school will start on time in three weeks. "The building is structurally sound and ready for occupancy. What we're doing now is getting all the repairs done and we'll be ready for the start of school," said Bernardi.

The Luzerne County District Attorney met with Exeter and state police this week. No charges have been filed but LamoreaxÕs house scene is still being treated as a criminal investigation.

Homeowners like Brenda Meehan, who has a cracked porch now, hope her neighbors bounce back. "I'm hoping that anybody that actually needs it will get the assistance they need for the help," said Meehan.

The Exeter police chief says Lamoreax is still in the hospital, listed in critical condition.
