LUZERNE/LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Weekend construction along Interstate 81 could make for some long trips.
Sections of I-81 north and southbound in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties are affected. Many areas will be down to one lane until Monday morning.
Here's the complete breakdown from PennDOT:
¥ Exits 178-180: NB Crossover for bridge project between Exit 178A (Avoca) and Exit 180 (Moosic). DRIVERS ALERT: Single lane northbound begins 9PM, Friday (7/17), through Sunday night (7/19), for resetting of barrier and removal of crossover and related work. Two-lane traffic will be restored prior to 6am Monday (7/20). Moosic Exit 180 detour will be in place using Exit 182 Davis St. and will be restored to its final configuration prior to 6am on Wednesday (7/22). SPECIAL NOTE: IF WORK IS COMPLETED EARLIER, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT NORTHBOUND COULD BE OPEN SATURDAY INSTEAD OF SUNDAY. THAT MEANS THAT THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE RAMP WILL BE CLOSED FOR 48 HOURS SUNDAY AND MONDAY. Work will continue behind barrier. WORK AND SCHEDULE ARE WEATHER-PERMITTING. Anticipated completion late summer 2009.
¥ Exits 170 -175: Bridge rehabilitation. Luzerne Co. DRIVERS ALERT: SOUTHBOUND Traffic will be switched onto the new temporary bridge at mile 174, Laflin, beginning midnight Friday (7/17). SINGLE LANE SOUTHBOUND through the weekend and as late as 6am Monday (7/20). Switch could be completed by Sunday afternoon (7/19). Traffic will resume to normal two lanes Monday morning.
¥ Exits 170 -175: Northbound bridge work Saturday (7/18) at mile marker 173.8 between Exit 170 Bear Creek and just before the Pittston exit 175. Right lane restricted 6AM and 2PM. DELAYS
¥ Schuylkill Co. line to Exit 145: Northbound & Southbound. Luzerne County. Milling work begins Wednesday (7/22) or Thursday (7/23) northbound, 8pm to 6am. Paving set to start Monday (7/27), weather permitting. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: NIGHT TIME Resurfacing project for 11 miles of interstate and ramps from the Schuylkill County line to just before Exit 145, West Hazleton. Milling and paving work will be performed simultaneously northbound and southbound at night, Work will be Monday through Friday nights into Saturday morning. Project should be completed by the end of September. | | |
