DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Extra police patrols were scheduled around schools in Dunmore Monday morning. The effort follows reports of an attempted abduction near Dunmore High School last Friday.

A 13-year-old middle school student said that a man tried to lure her into his white van in the 200 block of Warren Street. The girl ran to a friend's house and called the police.

Investigators say they are looking for the driver who is described as a white male, in his mid 40's to early 50's with a heavy build and brownish-gray hair.

The vehicle was described as a late model, full sized white cargo van. The girl said it had no side windows and no lettering. There was a sliding door on the passenger side of the van and double doors in the rear.

Anyone with information about the van or the driver is being asked to call the Lackawanna Communications Center at 342-0111.

School Superintendent Richard McDonald said that students were being advised to walk with friends in a group and not to walk alone. An increased number of parents drove their children to school as classes began for the week.
