TOWANDA TOWNSHIP, BRADFORD COUNTY - The Federal Aviation Administration is expected at Bradford County Airport Tuesday afternoon to investigate a plane crash.

A Cessna 177 Cardinal from Massachusetts crashed on Runway 23 at the airport near South Towanda Monday afternoon around 3 o'clock.

Airport manager Carl Lafy says the plane "porpoised" upon landing.

That means the plane bounced then struck the runway nose-first and bounced again.

The airplane is destroyed after ending up off the runway with its wheels broken off, its propeller bent and other damage.

The 3 men on board -- the pilot, co-pilot and a passenger -- were taken to Memorial Hospital in Towanda for treatment of what appeared to be mostly minor injuries.
