FEMA Housing Deadline Extended - Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at 7:26PM EST

TUNKHANNOCK TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY- FEMA has approved another extension of emergency assistance for area families who have been out of their homes since the June floods of 2006.

About two dozen families in Wyoming, Susquehanna, Lackawanna and Luzerne counties are still living in mobile homes provided by the federal government.

That assistance was set to end in February but it has now been extended until July 7th.

Flood victims are counting on a federal buy out of their damaged property.

Flood Victim Phyllis Goble said, "We're going to go ahead and get our loan and buy the trailer so that we know we're settled where we need to be. Because this is too much, too much limbo for me. I can't take it."

Officials at the Wyoming County Emergency Management Agency say they're working with their state and federal representatives to push for a buy out so no other homes will be located on the flood prone land.
