MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- A State Police Fire Marshall has determined that a fire at the Signature Building Systems factory in Moosic was accidental.
The blaze broke out early Tuesday morning at the plant, which manufactures modular home units.
The company has about 165 employees.
Company officials say 60, including office workers, were kept on the job while cleanup efforts were underway.
The remaining staff was scheduled to be back to work on Wednesday.
Company President Victor DePhillips credits fast work by local fire volunteers for confining the fire to one small area and saving his building.
An automatic sprinkler system also helped to keep the fire from spreading.
DePhillips believes the fire started in or around a fixed position saw used to cut lumber for the modular units.
Signature manufactures modular home units that are distributed throughout a 14-state area in the northeast. | |
