SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- A Factoryville man has been sentenced to a term of 6 to 23 months on charges of involuntary manslaughter.

Casey Plummer still contends he doesn't remember the pickup truck crash that resulted in the death of his best friend. Plummer and 21-year-old Matthew Van Fleet were in the truck when it crashed into a tree along Wilbur Hil Road in Dalton. Police believe Plummer was the driver. Both men had been drinking at a party prior to the fatal crash.

Van-Fleet's mother and father wrote letters to the court which the judge described as forgiving and charitable. Plummer told the court he accepts responsibility for the accident. He wept in court as he torned to the victim's family and told them he was sorry.

Plummer will spend the first month of his sentence in the Lackawanna County Prison. The following 5 months will be spent under house arrest. He was also sentenced to 100 hours of community service but was told that amount will be reduced if he agrees to speak to student groups about the dangers of drunk driving.

The court also ordered Plummer to contribute $2,500 to a school scholarship fund established in memory of Matthew Van-Fleet.
