WAYNE COUNTY- Could the search for Laura Ronning's killer finally be over? Family members on Thursday night said "yes."
Ronning, a camp counselor, was raped and then shot to death 18 years ago. It happened near Tanners Falls, in Dyberry Township, Wayne County.
Ronning had been relaxing. It was her day off. She would later be found, shot in the head. And police say she was sexually assaulted.
Since then, Ronning's family has prayed for a break in the case. They say their prayers have been answered.
Ronning's family called Eyewitness News about the major development. Police aren't saying anything. But we had already been alerted about a news conference scheduled for this morning by the Wayne County District Attorney.
Additionally, Eyewitness News confirmed a well-known person of interest in the Ronning case, identified as Jeffrey Plishka, was being held at the Accomack County Jail in Virginia. A jail staff member said Plishka was arrested and being charged as a fugitive from Pennsylvania.
Published reports have shown Plishka claimed he saw Laura Ronning shortly before she would be found murdered. And it's alleged Plishka had access to 22-caliber rifles, the same type of weapon ballistics tests had shown were used in Ronning's murder.
That news conference is scheduled for 10:30 A. M. in Honesdale. Of course Eyewitness News will bring you the details on Eyewitness News at 11AM.
