PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY -- A Luzerne County man will stand trial for allegedly abusing his baby. James Homschek of Dupont is accused of shaking his 11-week-old son.
Investigators say Homschek was angry because the baby would not stop crying, so he allegedly took his anger out on the baby.
According to detectives Homschek was babysitting Jacob on December 28th at his home in Dupont. The baby' mother was not home at the time. When she came home the baby was vomiting.
They took the child to the hospital where doctors discovered broken ribs as well as other ribs that had been broken and were healing.
"He was babysitting. The baby was crying, crying crying. It got to the point where he got frustrated, got aggravated, and took the baby and gave it a real hard shake," said Dupont Police Chief Tony Demark.
Officer Charles Yarick added, "It definitely gets to you. Looking at an 11-week-old child seriously injured, you don't know if the kid is going to live or die. It's very difficult."
Homschek had nothing to say as left district court. He waived most of his charges onto trial.
The baby was in the hospital for several weeks. We are told he will be okay. If convicted Homschek faces at least 5 years in prison. He's free on bail. | |
