At 50, Father James Shimsky, better known as Father Jim, had faced the demons of addiction before.
An unofficial chaplain for those coping with drug and alcohol problems... Father Jim was their man
But a January night in West Kensignton, Philadelphia changed a lot for the Scranton priest.
He had been arrested for buying cocaine.
Shimsky was pulled from his parish and sent to rehab.
Again, shimsky was the patient.
Father Dave Betts spoke with us about his friend, Father Jim. Father Betts said Shimsky touched many lives and help people deal with their addictions.

Late Thursday, Scranton priests heard about Father Jim who died from a blood clot.

The void is unmistakable for those who need the help the most... Recovering addicts were drawn to Father Jim, according to his friends.
Father Jim Shimsky's funeral will be on Wednesday in Scranton.
