Watsontown, Northumberland County-
A father and daughter in Northumberland county are left homeless following a mid-day blaze. Flames tore through one half of a double block home on East Seventh Street in Watsontown.
Warrior Run Area Fire Chief Mark Burrows noted, “The guys did a very good job making initial attack on the fire in the first floor, and we searched for victims and found none.”
Thankfully, no one was home at the time. Brian Gresh was at work, and his 15-year-old daughter Sarah was at school, when this tragedy struck. The other side of the building was recently vacated.
Sister-in-law Julie Gresh lamented, “Just their pets. They lost their animals. They lost their rabbit, two dogs, two cats.”
Firefighters spent a couple hours on scene checking for hot spots and flare-ups. They believe the blaze started in the kitchen. An exact cause won’t be known until at least Tuesday.
Now members of the Gresh family are urging people to be extra careful, so this situation doesn’t happen to anyone else.
Julie Gresh added, “It’s typical fire weather. Check your furnaces, you know. Check your wood burners, coal stoves.”
We’re told the family does have insurance. Julie Gresh tells Eyewitness News that Brian and Sarah will stay with her until they can decide on their next move.
