The city of Scranton preps for a massive funeral procession to honor a fallen fire captain James Robeson.
As questions still surround the investigation into his tragic death.
The city has asked the national institute for occupational safety and health to investigate everything surrounding the tragic death.
Scranton city leaders hope a federal investigation into the death of fire captain James Robeson will lead to solid answers.
The national institute for occupational safety and health, or NIOSH, investigation could take up to 6 months.
Scranton public safety director Ray Hayes says, "we would certainly rather a long and detailed investigation that bears merit rather than a quick cursory investigation that doesn't come up with appropriate answers."
NIOSH investigators will inspect fire equipment, and review procedures by fire fighters and PPL workers.
Robeson was electrocuted fighting a fire here on ash street Sunday.
It appears the fire truck's lift bucket hit high voltage lines.
The request for NIOSH help comes after state police finished their investigation.
Troopers could only say the fire wasn't intentionally set, and Robeson's death was accidental.
Right now, it's unclear if any procedures to cut power to power lines weren't followed.
NIOSH could make recommendations to create or change procedures when the investigation is finished.
"this is how firefighter safety is increased. They learn from different things that have happened in the past and they continue to make the system better," says Hayes. | |
