MT. CARMEL TOWNSHIP, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY- There are new details in the deadly mining accident on Monday.
Federal officials released a report saying Robert Carey was seated along a coal rib in the Harmony Mine when part of the roof collapsed. It was a section 30 feet wide by 20 feet long.
The report says retreat mining was being done at the time of the accident. Carey died at the scene.
An autopsy showed he died because of multiple blunt force injuries. His death has been ruled accidental.
