Fight Over Amulance Service in Mt. Carmel
Fight Over Amulance Service in Mt. Carmel - Monday, December 29, 2008 at 10:35PM EST
MT. CARMEL, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY- An ambulance service in Northumberland County is fighting to save more than 30 jobs.
Mt. Carmel Borough Council will consider proposals to replace American Hose Community Ambulance with another service. They've been around for more than 60 years.
It started as a team of volunteers but recently hired paid professionals. That's when council says they started to get complaints about the service.
Workers at Monday night's meeting say the transition's been tough, but everything's under control. Chairperson Thea Tafner said, “The group at Shamokin Hospital did a great job in the ambulance and they are to be commended, as are the new group too. They're making homes in the community. All we're asking is to continue the tradition."
There's no word on when borough council will make its final decision on emergency services there in Mt. Carmel. | |
