PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY - Sunday was a sad day for church-goers in one part of Luzerne County as their church closed its doors for good.
Saint Casimir's Church in Pittston held its final mass Sunday afternoon. The church is one of three buildings scheduled to close between now and the end of June.
Most parishoners WYOU News talked to on Sunday say losing this church is like losing a part of their family history. Some even compared it to saying goodbye to an old friend.
"I'm very depressed overall because my mom and dad used to come here and we used to come to church every Sunday as little girls, my sister and I and my mom and dad," Donna Rudzabich said.
"It seems like in the last few years all I've been doing is going to wake after wake. I'm losing all my friends and now I'm losing my parish," Fred Sorick said.
Saint Joseph's Church in Pittston will close on May 18th. Saint John the Baptist will hold its final mass on June 29th. | | |
