STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY - There's more fallout from a weekend fire in Monroe County. The Carlton House apartments in Stroudsburg caught fire Saturday night. A building attached to the apartments was damaged by smoke and water and that damage is now impacting a charity.

The violent fire burned efforts to help domestic violence victims. "It's just devastating," said Jennifer Grube the Executive Director of Women's Resources of Monroe County.

The doors at the Echo charity shop are locked to keep people away from the dangerous fire aftermath. Grube said, "The water damage is just horrendous."

Echo is a used clothing store. All profits go to Women's Resources of Monroe County. Volunteer Kathie Weichel said, "Every penny helps with you know especially with the recession - state funding."

Over the past few years Echo has raised about $40,000 for women's resources. Grube said, "This echo project has been such a wonderful opportunity."

The shop also provided clothing vouchers for domestic violence victims. Weichel explained, "For $50 they can get several outfits and for some of them that's the only clothing they have - they left home with nothing."

But now there are no clothes for victims and no profit to help with crisis counseling or emergency shelter. Weichel said the old location is useless. Water from the fire fight soaked just about everything. She said, "It was heartbreaking - two thirds of the ceiling were on the floor so you were climbing over all this rubble."

Women's Resources hopes to find a new building and a place to store donated clothes. Volunteers said they also need donations or gift cards to help victims until they can rebuild. Weichel said, "If anyone could feel in their heart to donate we would greatly appreciate that."

You can drop donations at two downtown Stroudsburg businesses. They are the Apple Tree and Dunklebergers Clothing for Women. Both are on Main Street.
