Lewisburg, Union County-

The woman who stole nearly forty grand from a Union County fire company learned her fate Thursday afternoon.

Joyce Ann Bingaman, of Mifflinburg, was silent as she left her sentencing at the Union County court house.

Bingaman will spend the next seven years on probation as she attempts to pay back more than $37,000.

According to police, that’s how much she swiped while serving as treasurer of the Union County West End Fire Company.

The department has fallen apart in the eight months since the missing money was discovered.

More than half of the company’s active firefighters have quit in the fallout from the scandal.

In the meantime, Hartley Township supervisors have contracted with the Mifflinburg Hose Company as their first responders.

The firefighters still here say they are starting from scratch, and hope to be back up and running again soon.

Bingaman apologized for her actions just before she was sentenced.

She told the court she is on disability, but didn’t say why she took the money.

If Bingaman doesn’t follow through paying her restitution, she could still be sent to prison.

The state attorney general’s office has filed a petition to have the West End Fire Company shut down for good.

The company also runs an adjoining social club in Glen Iron.
