BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY -- Firefighters were called to the 500 block of Green Street in Berwick just before 4a. m. on Thursday.

Berwick Fire Chief Bill Coolbaugh says the fire spread through an open attic that three apartments shared within one building at 545 and 547 Green Street. One apartment had extensive fire damage on the top two floors, the middle apartment had fire damage mainly in the attic, while the third apartment had minimal fire damage.

Nine people were displaced from their homes, and the Great Berwick Chapter of the American Red Cross was stepping in to provide a hotel room, food, and any medication that was needed.

Nobody was hurt in the fire. A state police fire marshal will be investigating the cause on Friday.
