Fire Damages Warehouse in Danville
Fire Damages Warehouse in Danville - Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 9:30PM EST
DANVILLE, MONTOUR COUNTY - Firefighters were on the move Saturday afternoon in Montour County. They were called to fight a blaze at the former TRW Plant and only Eyewitness News was there when the flames broke out.
Bright orange flames and thick black smoke filled the sky as the fire started to burn. Firefighters were just two blocks away when the blaze broke out.
"I heard this loud humming noise and I was looking up to see what it was. We saw a large cloud of smoke erupt from behind the old TRW building," Assistant Fire Chief Chris Dickinson said.
What made the scene dangerous, was that several transformers exploded.
"It looked like a bomb exploding. The smoke came up in a big cloud of smoke and erupted from the building here," Dickinson said.
No one was inside the building at the time of the fire and no one was hurt. PPL was called to the scene to isolate power to the building and the flames were put out in about 30 minutes.
"There was light fire condition inside, most of the fire was on the outside of the building," fire chief Mark Fry said.
The former TRW plant was recently sold according to firefighters. Investigators say Satuday's fire most likely started because of a power surge or transfer failure. | |
