SOUTH CANAAN TOWNSHIP, WAYNE COUNTY -- Fire destroyed a home in Wayne County this morning.

Crews were called to Knobbe Knoll Lane at about 5:30 A. M. Were told at least one person lives at the home but wasn't there at the time.

Route 296 was closed while firefighters battled the flames. Crews from three counties had to help pump water to the scene.

Waymart Fire Chief Tom Derrick said, "We have crews here from Wayne, Lackawanna and Susquehanna, basically due to water demands, we're tanking water in from a local stream."

The state police fire marshal will investigate the cause later today.
