WEST PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY - An early Sunday morning fire in Luzerne County, which forced two families from their homes, has been ruled accidental. The blaze broke out in the 300-block of Spring Street in West Pittston just after 2:00 AM.
Five people were home at the time of the fire. They all got out safely. Investigators say the blaze did heavy damage to a bathroom and the building's attic.
Fire victims remember waking up to the smell of smoke.
"My granddaughter got us up actually and we smelled smoke. We looked all over the house and couldn't find anything. The other couple came running over, pounding on the doors, saying the house was on fire and to get out," fire victim Mary Urban said.
It took firefighters about two hours to bring the blaze under control. All of the homeowners are either staying with relatives or are being helped out by the American Red Cross. | |
