KIDDER TOWNSHIP, CARBON COUNTY -- A massive fire rips through a condominium at a vacation hideaway -- causing significant damage in the heart of the Poconos.

This morning's fire tore through a four-unit condo in Carbon County. The fire brought out dozens of fire crews to Westwood Villas at Split Rock in Lake Harmony.

An unoccupied four-unit condo erupted in flames. That kept firefighters on the scene for several hours. The fire destroyed 3 of the 4 units.

Maintenance workers from split rock showed up for duty just after 6:30. That's when they spotted smoke coming from the condo.

Ed Massimino said, "I went to go in the 4th unit where the fire was but it was too intense and the fire was coming out the side then we called 9-1-1 and the rest is history."

Lake Harmony Fire Chief Ralph Lennon said, "Unbeknownst to us, the fire was in the basement and it was a common basement which allowed it to pop up in the third unit . So once we were able to knock that down, it was just a matter of you know room by room taking care of things."

The fire-gutted condominium is one of 90 condos on site. A state police fire marshal was quick to arrive on scene. There's no word this hour on a cause.
