VANDLING, LACKAWANNA COUNTY

A State Police Fire Marshall has ruled that a fire at the Vandling Fire Company Picnic Pavilion early Tuesday morning is a case of arson.

The fire was discovered just before 2am and volunteers form three counties responded to the alarm.

The blaze destroyed kitchen equipment and supplies used for fund raising events as well as some fire fighting equipment that had been stored there. An antique Fire Cart dopnated to the company by a local coal company nealry a hundred years ago was also destroyed in the blaze.

Fire company members are hoping to be able to rebuild and have the pavillion and picnic grounds ready for their next scheduled fund raising event in September.

The company's ability to respond to calls was not affected by the blaze!
