HUGHESTOWN, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -Fire crews in Hughestown battled heat and flames Tuesday afternoon.
They were called to a smoky fire in the basement of a house at 408 Parsonage Street.
Everyone got out safely but the house sustained smoke and water damage
The fire chief says the fire could have been worse.
Hughestown fire Chief Jamie Merlino told WBRE Eyewitness News
"Basement door was closed so that held the fire down in the basement and saved the structure."

The chief say the fire is accidental.
The family is staying elsewhere tonight.
