WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY -- Wilkes-Barre firefighters were called out on the snowy Saturday night to fight a double block house fire.

Fire broke out in a third floor common attic in the 200-block of Carey Avenue. A family of three lived at 271 Carey Avenue while the other side was vacant. Only one family member was home and got out safely.

Firefighters contained the fire to the attic which has heavy damage while the 2nd floor sustained lesser damage.

Wilkes-Barre Fire Chief Jay Delaney said, "We're not calling it anything until the city fire inspector comes here to investigate to see what he thinks caused it. We have some preliminary thoughts but we have to do some more work before we can answer that."

The victims are staying with other family members after this Wilkes-Barre fire.
