RICE TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY- Firefighters were battling a brush fire Saturday afternoon. It happened at along Rice Drive in Rice Township.
Investigators say the brush fire started when someone was burning outside in an open pit and the flames spread.

Gusty winds pushed the brush fire into an abandoned building. “It barely got the structure. We got here in time to stop it before it got it. It’s an abandoned structure, it’s an old pool house," said the Rice Twp. Fire Chief.

Firefighters say the dry weather will make the situation worse as we head through early spring.
