SOUTH ABINGTON TWP., LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- Firefighters battled a house fire in the bitter cold Tuesday evening. The blaze forced two people from their home.

Flames broke at the home located on Layton Road in South Abington Township. Dozens of firefighters responded to the call.

The owners of the home, a woman and her adult son, were not at home. TheyÕre staying with relatives now.

Chinchilla Hose Company Assistant Chief Keith Grierson said, ÒThe incoming units first arrived on scene and some fire was coming out of the roof and in the eaves. We were able to knock down the fire pretty quickly."

The chief says the fire started in an upstairs bedroom. A state police fire marshal will look for the cause Wednesday morning. There were no injuries.
