First Big Snowstorm Doesn't Slow Holiday Shoppers
First Big Snowstorm Doesn't Slow Holiday Shoppers - Friday, December 19, 2008 at 11:00PM EST
SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Drivers took it nice and slow through the hills of Scranton. PennDOT and city plows kept pace with the weather.
That meant only one problem for people like Paul Lukasiewicz. “Then the state came through and plowed me in again. So I just have to get all the snow up in the pile so we can get out of here tomorrow,” he said.
The storm that started as a powdery, fast snowfall, later whacked the area with a coating of ice. “I hate snow. It's ridiculous. I'm a teacher in Scranton and it would've been much better with a day in school than being out here for four hours shoveling this stuff,” he added.
Once the snow pushed away, the malls came alive. Only five full days of shopping 'til Christmas, and the winter weather was no match for those shopping lists. Alyssa Galassi said, The snow's definitely taking a toll on everybody driving tonight. The driving was really bad. The roads were very dangerous and the parking lot wasn't that great as well.”
Back on the streets, Nicole Notarianni took her time digging out, shoveling the snow in stages. All in all, she said it wasn't too bad. I thought it was going to be much worse. They were out here getting the roads cleaned up quick. So it was good. I didn't think it was too bad,” she said. | |
