First Winter Storm of 2009 Means More Travel Trouble - Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 11:30PM EST

Snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain - the messy mixture means misery for drivers in Central and Northeast PA. The problems started Tuesday evening and will continue through Wednesday morning. Ice scrapers were the tools of choice instead of snow shovels and snow throwers.

Our weather team says the ice will continue through the early morning hours everywhere before changing to plain rain from the valleys cities on south. However the higher elevations of the Northern Tier and Poconos will see ice continue through much of Wednesday morning with a significant buildup of ice likely.

The precipitation will taper to rain and snow showers Wednesday afternoon before moving out by Wednesday evening.
