CARBONDALE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Officials in Carbondale did their final inspection of a stream
remediation project along Racketbrook Creek Friday morning.
Occasional flooding has caused
serious erosion along the stream. The latest repair project involved the
rebuilding and reinforcement of a bank that had given way. This threatened the
foundation of a nearby home.
Carbondale Mayor Justin Taylor said
he would like to see remediation along the entire creek in the city. "Unfortunately
we're piece mealing this creek and fixing areas that we have issues with after
each individual storm. What we really need to focus on is some federal and
state money to secure the entire stream bank, which is probably a mile and a
half from start to finish."
Mayor Taylor said without
improvement along the entire stream additional erosion problems can be
expected.
