WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY-The numbers are scary. One person dies every 20 minutes because of drunk driving.
A campaign in Luzerne County hopes to put the brakes on those numbers. If you see flipped over cars, like the one on Kidder Street, it's no accident. The cars symbolize the dangers of drunk driving. It's part of the S.O.B.E.R. campaign, run by the Wyoming Valley Alcohol and Drug Services.
There were 24 drunken driving deaths in Luzerne County alone last year.
Carmen Ambrosino of the Wyoming Valley Alcohol and Drug Services explained "There are 24 families in this community that are dealing with a very senseless tragedy. So these programs are designed for community prevention and education."
This program has been underway for more than 30 years.
