Flooding Triggers Rescues, Road Closures

Flooding Triggers Rescues, Road Closures - Sunday, June 13, 2010 at 04:09AM EST

Reported by: Eyewitness News
Sunday June 13 2010
OLD FORGE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- Flash flooding pounded Lackawanna County Sunday afternoon after more than three inches of rain fell in just a couple of hours.

Cars and trucks got stuck and there was a dramatic rescue in the middle of one street and Eyewitness News caught it all on camera.

It happened in Old Forge as a man and two children were driving in a pickup when flood waters surrounded the truck. Firefighters had to use a boat to reach them.

Besides the Borough of Old Forge, Taylor, Moosic and the City of Scranton were also hit hard by Sunday's flash flooding.

Eyewitness News found big puddles on streets like Pittston Avenue in South Scranton. The rain that fell was too much for many storm drains to handle.

Parking lots along Birney Avenue also flooded cars across those areas. In many cases the water was several feet deep on the roads and in parking lots.

To report storm damage call the Eyewitness News hotline at 1-800-358-9273. You can e-mail photos of storm damage to weather@pahomepage. com .
