SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY

A line of people began to form at the Watres Armory in Scranton three hours before United Neighborhood Centers opened the doors for its annual Thanksgiving Food Basket distribution Tuesday.

The agency provides bags filled with everything that's needed for a traditional holiday meal to families in need in Lackawanna County. Director Mike Hanley said that need seems greater than ever this year. Hanley said 500 of the estimated 1,900 families registered for the basket distribution have never been to any place for assistance in the past.

Hundreds of volunteers from schools and the business community turned out to help with the distribution.
