WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY- A former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins player has died while playing the game he loved.
Darcy Robinson passed away Thursday night while playing for Asiago of the Italian Ice-Hockey Federation.
No cause of death was immediately known.
Robinson was just 26-years-old.
He played 158 games as a defense-man for our Penguins from 2001 to 2005.
His sudden death has hit the penguins organization hard.
Jeff Barrett, Wilkes-Barre-Scranton Penguins CEO, said, "It hits home. Darcy was a guy that everyone liked and everyone enjoyed being around."
Penguins Radio Announcer, Tom Grace said, "The initial reaction is shock and then it's immediately sadness. Then you think back to the memories of this kid."
There will be a moment of silence before Friday's Penguins pre-season game to honor Robinson.
The organization also plans to remember him with some sort of decal or marker on their jerseys for this upcoming season.
