SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY - A former Scranton firefighter who was accused of arson Thursday afternoon is now behind bars in Lackawanna County.

Thomas Gervasi was taken into custody Friday afternoon. He was supposed to post bail by noon.

He was picked up and taken to the Lackawanna County prison because the conditions of posting his $100,000 bail were not successfully met.

Gervasi is accused of setting fire to a garage he owned back in June of 2008. The fire spread to neighboring homes.

Three people, including a fellow firefighter and infant, were hurt.

Investigators say Gervasi started the blaze to make money off an insurance policy.
