SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- A former Scranton school director will not serve jail time despite giving alcohol to teenagers. A judge sentenced 48-year-old Mark Kandel of Peckville to probation and house arrest instead of prison.
Kandel pleaded guilty in July to furnishing alcohol to minors. The plea came one month after authorities acknowledged they expanded an investigation concerning Kandel.
It centered on a two-day party in May when investigators say Kandel sent lewd text messages to a 17-year-old boy. The D. A.'s office says with today's sentencing the case against Kandel is closed.
