Hundreds were getting ready for the flu season in Wilkes-Barre on Friday.
A free seasonal flu vaccine was offered at the city health department.
Getting a free seasonal flu vaccine is a yearly event for Alan Caton of Wilkes-Barre .
"It's always important for me to get it. Like I said, keeps me healthy and everybody around me," said Caton.
Caton joined more tan 200 people at this flu shot clinic at Wilkes-Barre's city health department.
Melissa Langan brought her whole family, including her sons.
Her boys are in the highest risk bracket for catching the flu.
She told us why this flu shot clinic is so important.
"We have a big family and we have lots of kids in school and make sure everyone stays healthy and especially makes sure it doesn't spread within our own household," said Langan.
Another high risk age bracket susceptible to the flu virus is people 50 or older.
Many here at this clinic fall into that category, like Gene Harris.
"Well it's free and you know you got to get one. They say get one if you have a bad heart. So I get one," said Harris.
Wilkes-Barre's health department will offer these clinics through October.
The health department says in about two months, swine flu vaccinations will be available.
The next Wilkes-Barre flu clinic is Saturday at 10am at the health department on North Franlkin Street .
