MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Volunteers from 'Friends of the Poor' have been doing some Christmas toy shopping.

The organization, which helps families in need, purchased thousands of toys to be given to low income families for their kids in time for Christmas.

The organization used donated funds to buy the toys at the K-Mart in Moosic.

They were loaded into a donated Rhoads Scholar truck to be taken to an area where they will be sorted, packed and wrapped for distribution.

Sister Adrian Barrett, who directs Friends of the Poor, said the need for assistance has been growing every year.

She said some families, who have traditionally been considered 'middle income', are turning to her agency for the first time.

Donations of both new and financial contributions are still needed by Friends of the Poor.

The toy distribution will take place at Holy Family Church in Scranton on December 19, 20 and 21st.
