PARADISE TOWNSHIP - Three fire companies rushed to a Pocono home Wednesday morning. They did their best to save the place on Timber Hill in Paradise Township but the homeowners lost almost everything.
Every day Elizabeth Drew takes care of other people, as a nurse. Now she needs someone to help take care of her. Drew's friend Maureen Hart said, "She's always been the strong one. She's always been there for me. And it's the reverse now."
Maureen tried to help Elizabeth stay strong as she watched her house burn down Wednesday. "There's nothing she can go and retrieve from there. It's all gone," said Hart.
Elizabeth was in her driveway cleaning snow and ice off of her car window. When she heard a beeping sound. She turned around, looked in her garage window and saw flames everywhere.
"I called 9-1-1 jumped into the car and drove to my other neighbor's house," said Drew.
Neighbors helped her save two birds. Several more were stuck in the house. She doesn't know what happened to them. Even as she lost almost everything she owned, Elizabeth was thinking about her patients. "I need stuff for my work. My stethoscope is gone, my blood pressure stuff is gone," she said.
She wants to get back to work and get her life back together as soon as possible. "It could've been worse. I could've been in there," said Elizabeth.
Now after years of helping others, she hopes someone will reach out and help her.
It appears that fire started in the garage. An investigator will try to pin point exactly what sparked it. '
