POCONO TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY - Even though we're just a couple of days into Autumn, people in the Poconos are preparing for winter. Workers are dismantling Camelbeach Water Park and Turning it into Camelback Ski Area.
In Summer Tommy Beirne works at Camelbeach Water Park.
In winter he works at Camelback Ski Resort.
In fall he helps the mountain transition from fun in the sand to fun in the snow. He said, "Keeps it interesting. Every day is a different day. You never know what to expect."
Even in the off season there's a lot of work for Camelback employees. Beirne said, "I just enjoy it. Everybody's here to have fun. So we want everybody to have fun. Have a good time."
Eyewitness News found the staff getting ready for ski season. They're taking apart water attractions, painting buildings and winterizing pools.
The resort's Vice President of Sales and Marketing Jerry Lawlor said, "We pride ourselves on being prepared and being ready to go as soon as the weather permits."
The transition from water slides to ski slopes takes about two and half months. Once the employees do their jobs, they hope for Mother Nature to do hers. Lawlor said, "Independent parties are telling us like Accuweather and the Farmers Almanac that we're going to have a very snowy winter."
Camelback manager said summer business turned out better than expected. It started off poorly with rain in June and July but August business made up for it. | | |
