Funding Fears for Film Offices

Funding Fears for Film Offices - Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 4:50PM EST

Williamsport, Lycoming County-
Funding fears are front and center in the minds of Pennsylvania filmmakers following a state Senate vote Wednesday afternoon.

Elected officials approved Senate Bill 850. It’s an alternative budget proposal that would cut funding to all of Pennsylvania’s regional film offices.

Board members at the Central Pennsylvania Film Office in Williamsport say the $75 million budget cut would be devastating.

C. P.F. O. board member Lonnie Wilcox said, “The potential for film is strong in Pennsylvania. But without programs like the film office none of this could happen. I think it’s very important that we put Pennsylvania on the map with things like this.”

Film office officials believe the bill will destroy their efforts to market Pennsylvania’s beautiful scenery.

Senate Bill 850 will now be sent to the state House of Representatives.
