PLAINS, LUZERNE COUNTY- 150 Valley Crest nursing home patients move out of their building in Plains township next month. They'll move next door, into the new timber ridge health center, leaving valley crest vacant. Luzerne county wants to sell the property, but it's been tough.
Veterans groups like the Northeastern PA Multicare Alliance have eyed the facility. Executive Director Richard Wren said, "Funding is extremely tight right now, especially in this atmosphere, especially for an organization like us that are just trying to get our feet wet."
If the timing and funding were right, Wren says his organization would try to turn the facility into a veterans home. Luzerne county officials tell me the asking price for this property is just above five million dollars.
Luzerne County commissioner Maryanne Petrilla said, "We have our financial issues here in the county so to sell that as quickly as possible that would be in our best interest." Petrilla says some equipment from Valley Crest will be used, in places like the Luzerne County prison. Wren says his organization stands behind whoever buys this property. “If there was going to be an organization that would try to utilize valley crest, we would support them 100 percent," said Wren. | |
