NEWFOUNDLAND, WAYNE COUNTY

The 91st annual G D S Country Fair opened a week long run in Newfoundland, Wayne County Tuesday morning.

The popular Greene Dreher Sterling Fair was started by a school teacher, Miss Ella Nevin, as a classroom exhibit to allow students to display their handwork. It now serves as a major promotion of the area's agricultural community with livestock exhibits and competition and displays of both modern and antique farm equipment.

The fair attracts thousands of visitors each year, many from neighboring New Jersey and New York. It runs through Labor Day at the fairgrounds in Newfoundland.
